Since yesterday Facebook users in the United States are able to send or receive real gifts through the social network.
To use this new service senders will have to choose a gift among an available selection of products, attach a card, pay for it, and send it, either privately or posting the gift to the receiver's timeline.
As the address to which the gift is sent is set by the receiver, the sender doesn't need to know it. Receivers will also be able to choose characteristics of the gift such as its color, size, or flavor, or even exchange it for something else of equal price.
Facebook is implementing this new service four months after its acquisition of Karma, a service by which users could use their mobile phones to instantly send real gifts to their family and friends.
