Facebook announced on Friday that it has acquired Karma, a service by which users can use their mobile phones to instantly send real gifts to their family and friends.
Karma’s gift sending service is accessed through an app that can be installed either in an iPhone or in an Android based device.
The gifts available to be sent with Karma are a selection of products stored by the company. Once a recipient accepts the present and gives Karma an address to ship to, the company asks the sender for the payment. With this method the gift is paid only if it is accepted by the recipient, and once the sender pays, it is shipped.
The only information from the recipient needed to send a gift is his phone number or email. For the moment the service works only with ships within the United States.
